SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - The Liberty Ranch Hawks boys’ soccer team has done it again. The defending CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division 4 champions repeated as section champions Saturday evening at Sacramento City College, defeating second-seeded East Union High School 1-0 in a tense, hard-fought championship match that showcased everything that makes this program special.

The Hawks entered the playoffs as the fourth seed after finishing second in league behind crosstown rival Galt High School. Placed in a different division than the Warriors for the postseason, Liberty Ranch used that chip on its shoulder to fuel a championship run that culminated in one of the program’s greatest achievements: back-to-back section titles.

The championship game was a showcase of two elite programs operating at the highest level. Fast, physical and tactically brilliant, both teams created chances but neither could find the breakthrough in the first half. The game went into halftime scoreless, with the tension building as both benches searched for the tactical adjustment that would unlock the deadlock.

Liberty Ranch found its moment in the middle of the second half. In a scramble at the goal mouth, the ball bounced off the East Union goalkeeper and junior Isaac Flores was in the right place at the right time, pouncing on the rebound and driving it into the net. The goal, assisted by junior Humberto Dominguez, sent the Hawks’ supporters into celebration and put Liberty Ranch in the driver’s seat with the championship on the line.

What followed was a masterclass in defensive resolve. East Union, a second-seeded program with the talent and determination to match its ranking, pressed forward relentlessly in search of the equalizer. The Hawks’ defense absorbed wave after wave of attacks, refusing to yield and protecting their slim advantage with the kind of disciplined, organized defending that championship teams are built on. Every clearance, every tackle, every blocked shot was a testament to the preparation and character of this Liberty Ranch squad.

When the final whistle blew at Sacramento City College, the Hawks erupted in celebration, knowing they had accomplished something truly special.

Head Coach Garett Arechiga reflected on the magnitude of the achievement with pride and gratitude.

“Definitely a proud moment for our boys, our staff and our program,” Arechiga said. “We set out the season with the goal to repeat as section champions, and we did it. It was a tough road, but our boys rose to the occasion and accomplished something a lot of programs cannot say they’ve done. We could not have had the season we had without the support of our boosters, faculty and of course the parents.”

Arechiga’s words capture the collective effort that goes into building a championship program. Behind every successful team is a community of supporters who make it possible, and Liberty Ranch’s back-to-back titles are a tribute to everyone who has invested in this program.

For Flores and Dominguez, the goal and assist that decided the championship will be remembered forever. For the entire Hawks roster, the feeling of repeating as section champions – something few programs ever achieve – is a reward for the countless hours of work put in throughout the season.

The road wasn’t easy. Coming in as the fourth seed and defeating a second-seeded East Union team on the biggest stage proves that seedings and regular season records mean little when championship soccer is played. Liberty Ranch rose to the occasion when it mattered most, delivering a performance worthy of champions.

Back to back. The Liberty Ranch Hawks are CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division 4 Champions … again.
