GALT, CA (MPG) - For nearly a decade, the Eggstravaganza event debuting the start of Spring has been a cherished tradition in Galt. In recent years, when other organizations were unable to continue hosting the event, the Galt Area Historical Society stepped in to ensure families could keep enjoying the annual celebration at McFarland Living History Ranch.

This year, the tradition continues, with residents invited to join their neighbors for a day of family fun at the Eggstravaganza and Kite Day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 4 at McFarland Ranch, 8899 Orr Road.

“We welcome new families to join us for this incredibly fun event and to start a new family tradition that takes one back to the good old-fashioned community events of yesteryear,” said Galt Area Historical Society representatives and lead event organizers Lisa Haug and Darlene Alden.

This year’s Eggstravaganza and Kite Day at McFarland Ranch on April 4 offers a full day of family fun, featuring activities like kite flying and an egg drop contest.

Families can also learn about Galt’s history by touring the McFarland Ranch house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., seeing how ancestors lived in the late 1800s compared with life today.

Admission to the event is $5 per car. With 15,000 eggs hidden around the ranch, organizers ask that children limit themselves to 20 eggs each so others can enjoy the hunt.

This year’s festivities promise a full day of fun for all ages. Attendees can explore vendors, food trucks, kite flying and a pie-eating contest at noon sponsored by the Galt Sunrise Rotary Club. At 1 p.m., children ages 5 to 12 can participate in the highly anticipated egg drop contest, for which registration is available online at galthistory.com/egg-drop-registration

Additional activities include pictures with the Easter Bunny, a kid zone filled with crafts and cookie decorating. Returning visitors will also notice new additions to the kid zone, including bubbles, Play-Doh, scratch pad decorating and corn hole.

Animal lovers can meet cats from Purrfectly Pawsible and dogs from Wilton Animal Rescue, while the Cowabunga Ice Cream truck will offer a variety of sweet treats. Guests can also get their faces painted by a professional artist.

The Galt Area Historical Society emphasizes that Eggstravaganza is more than just an Easter celebration. From hunting for eggs to flying kites, the event combines community, history and excitement.

“The event is a way to enjoy family and friends, see history and just be a kid,” Haug and Alden said.

Organizers also thanked their many volunteers, noting that without their dedication, the event would not be possible. For more information, visit galthistory.com.
