The April Saturday Market featured a Touch-a-Truck and Safety Expo, where families could bring children to explore and climb on emergency vehicles, construction equipment and tractors while learning about community safety.

GALT, CA (MPG) - With the return of the Saturday Market last month, the first Saturday in April brought a full lineup of vendors to the 4th Street Promenade, where hundreds of attendees strolled through booths, enjoyed warm weather and listened to free live music from the Saturday Market stage.

The market featured a mix of returning favorites, starting with Little Bird Bakery, a locally based cottage bakery specializing in sourdough breads and pastries.

Owned by husband-and-wife duo Suliman and Khatera Safdari, the business has operated since 2024 and is known for its sourdough loaves and Brown Butter Sea Salt Chocolate Chip Cookies. The Safdaris said they set up shop each month at the market.

“We love seeing everybody; we’ve been doing this for three years now, and being out with the community is really fulfilling,” Khatera Safdari said.

A Galt resident of eight years, Khatera Safdari said the market has always stood out as a space where the community comes together, whether people are selling goods or shopping. The bakery can also be found via Instagram at @little.bird.bakery_.

Near the stage, passersby had the opportunity to stop at a mobile hat bar inside a small white trailer. The business, Charlie Jo Hat Co., is owned and operated by Sammy Freitas.

Based in Lodi, the business offers customizable hats, including mesh caps and cowboy styles, which can be decorated with a wide selection of yarns, trinkets and bandanas to create one-of-a-kind designs.

Freitas, who can be found on Instagram at @charliejohatco, also hosts private parties, corporate events, bridal showers, bachelorette parties and weddings.

Beth’s Boutique, another Saturday Market regular, was present serving what owner Beth

Bettencourt of Stockton calls “homecooked happiness” through a variety of jams and jellies.

Flavors include cherry, spiced pepper, guava habanero and blueberry jalapeño, among several others. Her business can also be followed on Instagram at @bethsboutiquejellyjam.

Beyond the vendor booths, families gathered for the Touch-a-Truck and Safety Expo, a free interactive event set up within the market where children explored emergency vehicles, construction equipment and a Cal-Waste truck. Local organizations joined this effort, hosted by the City of Galt, to give kids a hands-on look at public safety and the vehicles that serve the community.

The Galt Police Department also participated, showcasing patrol vehicles and equipment alongside community members who brought out their own specialty vehicles, including tractors.

The Saturday Market is held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. the first Saturday of each month now through November at 4th and C streets.
