FOLSOM, CA (MPG) - The San Joaquin Section’s top track and field athletes gathered at Folsom High School on Saturday, May 23 for the highly anticipated CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Meet.
Representing Galt High School as the program’s lone qualifier was sophomore MC Azubuike, who took center stage in the high jump and delivered a strong performance against some of the best jumpers in the section. Azubuike finished fifth overall, closing out an impressive postseason run and narrowly missing a top-three finish that would have earned him a berth to the CIF State Championships in Clovis.
Placing fifth in a section as deep and competitive as the Sac-Joaquin Section is a major accomplishment, especially for a sophomore competing on one of the biggest stages of the season.
“To place fifth in this section as a sophomore is an incredible achievement,” Galt Head Coach Bruce Peterson said. “It’s not easy to compete in the high-pressure environment at the Masters Championship meet. It takes poise, and MC showed why he is one of the best jumpers in the San Joaquin Section. MC is the top sophomore jumper in the section and one of the top sophomores in California.”
With two more years of high school competition ahead, Azubuike has a chance to continue building on an already impressive start to his career. If Saturday’s performance at Folsom is any indication, this may only be the beginning of a strong postseason presence for him over the next several seasons.
“We are proud of MC and all of our track athletes this season,” Peterson said. “We have a young squad with great potential. It’s been a fun year watching this young team improve every week. The future looks bright for Galt High School Track and Field.”
