GALT, CA (MPG) - Liberty Ranch High School STUNT continued its league dominance this season, and senior Mikina McCreery made history along the way.
McCreery was named league MVP for the third year in a row, becoming the first Liberty Ranch STUNT athlete to accomplish the feat. The honor, voted on by the other coaches in the league, adds another milestone to one of the most decorated careers in program history.
The achievement is especially impressive because of McCreery’s versatility. She is both a base and a tumbler, two demanding roles in a sport built around precision, strength, timing and execution. In a high school STUNT game, 18 different routines can be called, and McCreery said she competed in 15 of the 18 routines this season.
“I’m very thankful for everyone who gave me the chance to get where I am,” McCreery said.
Barbara Welch-Coach of the Year
McCreery’s historic MVP honor will also be recognized inside the Liberty Ranch gym, where she will have a poster displayed in her honor.
The Hawks once again won the league championship, continuing a streak that dates back to the beginning of league competition in the sport. Liberty Ranch has won league every year there has been a league title to win. This season, the Hawks were perfect in league play and finished with an overall record of 26 wins and two losses.
Head Coach Barbara Welch was also honored, earning Coach of the Year after a vote by her fellow league coaches. The award adds to a memorable season for Welch and the Hawks, who continued to set the standard for STUNT in the area.
