GALT, CA (MPG) - The City of Galt has issued $391,000 in administrative fines following investigations into illegal fireworks activity during Independence Day celebrations.

According to city officials, the Galt Code Enforcement Division partnered with the Galt Police Department and Cosumnes Fire Department to identify and address violations throughout the community. Enforcement teams used drone technology and video evidence to investigate reports of illegal fireworks use.

Officials identified 20 locations where violations occurred and have mailed notices to those involved. The notices are expected to arrive in the coming days.

Under Galt’s municipal code, each illegal firework that is used, possessed or ignited constitutes a separate violation and carries a $1,000 fine. City officials said penalties may be issued not only to individuals who discharge illegal fireworks, but also to property owners, renters and event hosts who permit such activity on their property.

The city’s fireworks ordinance is intended to reduce the risk of fires, injuries, property damage and other public safety hazards associated with illegal fireworks.

Officials said enforcement efforts are part of an ongoing strategy that combines education, outreach and enforcement to improve community safety and discourage the use of illegal fireworks.
