GALT, CA (MPG) - The Galt Police Department is reminding local businesses and their employees that it is illegal to sell or furnish alcoholic beverages to anyone under 21 years of age.

As part of the department’s ongoing efforts to prevent underage alcohol sales and promote community safety, the Galt Police Department will be conducting minor decoy operations at local businesses in the future. The department encourages business owners and employees who sell or serve alcohol to take extra care when checking identification.

Employees should be familiar with the signs of fake or altered identification and receive proper training on responsible alcohol sales and service. If there is any doubt about a customer’s age or identification, employees are encouraged not to make the sale.

Selling or furnishing alcohol to a minor can result in criminal and administrative penalties and may also affect a business’s alcoholic beverage license.

The Galt Police Department appreciates the cooperation of local business owners and employees and their continued partnership in helping to prevent underage alcohol consumption and keeping the community safe.
