GALT, CA (MPG) - The Galt Warriors JV football team opened its season in winning fashion Friday night at Warrior Stadium, pulling away from the visiting Franklin Yellowjackets (Stockton) for a 43-20 victory in non-league play.
The win didn’t come without a few early hiccups. JV Head Coach Justin Arno admitted his squad looked a little out of sorts in the first half, particularly on special teams.
“They were a little confused on our special teams, just because we haven’t really practiced it,” Arno said.
“Starting out the season, I’m trying to get everybody to play if I can. Sometimes it doesn’t work out like that.”
With the beginning of the season upon them, Arno made it a priority to get every player on the field, rotating bodies through special teams and offense throughout the night, even as the score at the end of the second quarter was tighter than the Warriors expected.
“After our second quarter, we weren’t up as much as we thought we would be,” Arno said. “But I figured we’d get everybody in with plenty of time, and luckily we did.”
Whatever was said in the locker room at halftime worked. Galt settled in after the break and clamped down defensively, surrendering just one score the rest of the way: a touchdown Arno chalked up to a lucky break for the Yellowjackets.
“After we talked to them, they settled down,” Arno said. “They’re happy about it. They’re excited for next week against Golden Sierra.”
The JV Warriors, now 1-0, return to Warrior Stadium on Friday, Sept. 4 to host Golden Sierra in another non-league test.
