ROCKLIN, CA (MPG) - The Galt High School Warriors Cross Country team turned one of Northern California's most demanding early-season meets into a program-wide breakthrough Saturday, Aug. 29, with all 29 Galt runners posting personal records over the 4,000-meter course at the Oakmont Invitational.

Held on the trails of Johnson-Springview Park in Rocklin, the meet drew more than 1,600 runners from 63 schools across Northern California, Nevada and the Tahoe basin. With that kind of depth on the starting line, the Oakmont Invitational felt less like a season opener and more like a mid-season championship, and the Warriors answered the challenge from the first race to the last.

“We are off to a good start and everyone is contributing,” Head Coach Bruce Peterson said. “It is a testament to a great summer training block that clearly prepared them for the demands of the 2026 season.”

The loudest statement of the day came from Galt’s underclassmen. In a Sophomore Boys race that featured 270 runners, the Warriors placed ninth out of 24 teams overall and second in the Division IV classification.

Sophomore Aaron Garcia set the tone with a 14th-place finish in 13:49.24, holding a fast pace to crack the top 15 of a massive, multi-state field. Isaac Rodriguez followed in 31st at 14:30.46, and Christian Juarez took 42nd in 14:39.71, giving Galt three runners inside the top 50. Trevor Rojas (83rd, 15:26.90), Jayden Sirben (116th, 15:57.21), Damian Miller (127th, 16:05.47) and Ayden Abarca (152nd, 16:24.95) rounded out a deep scoring group, with Wyatt Wymer, Robin Miller and Diego Flores all recording personal bests as well.

In the freshman ranks, Parker High made an early mark in just his second high school race, leading Galt’s ninth graders with a 67th-place finish in 15:49.54. Nico Rodriguez (164th, 18:44.26) and Kaleb Smith (195th, 20:49.24) also competed in the Freshman Boys race.

“We have a great young team, especially a deep and talented sophomore squad,” Peterson said. “As a team they are learning to race together in big races, which will pay off as the year goes on.”

The Varsity divisions at Oakmont traditionally attract some of the strongest runners in Northern California, and Galt’s upperclassmen did not back down.

Junior Daniel Crownover anchored the Boys Varsity squad, finishing 115th in a field of hundreds with a time of 13:32.80, the fastest Galt time of the day. Juniors David Espinoza (252nd, 15:18.08), Aaron Gonzalez (255th, 15:22.35) and Kole Pierce (262nd, 15:27.87) finished within 10 seconds of one another, followed by seniors Zakery Forney (268th, 15:38.12), Julian Alvarado (299th, 16:47.32) and Mason Garcia (305th, 17:06.33).

On the girls’ side, junior Danielle Aragon led the Varsity charge in 18:02.73, good for 174th, with senior Morgan Jones close behind in 18:20.96 (179th). Senior Courtney Brouwer crossed in 19:20.74 (207th) and junior Angie Romero finished in 22:26.69 (235th).

The defending Division IV section champion Girls Frosh/Soph squad handled its first major invitational of the season with poise in a 263-runner field.

Sophomore Olivia Rodriguez led Galt with a 76th-place finish in 18:25.36. Freshman Natalia Angel secured a top-100 result, placing 89th in 18:48.38, and sophomore AnaLucia Alvarado showed grit to break the 20-minute barrier at 19:59.09 for 131st. Sophomores Jade Garcia (164th, 20:48.60) and Crystal Lamb (170th, 21:03.60) completed the group.

“We have a deep and talented group of girls where everyone is contributing,” Peterson said.

With every runner on the roster leaving Rocklin with a personal best, the Warriors have set an early benchmark for a season that appears to be building toward something bigger.

“It should be fun to watch everything unfold as the year progresses,” Peterson said.

Galt returns to action this week at another large-field meet, the Kim Duyst Invitational in Ceres.
