GALT, CA (MPG) - Liberty Ranch didn’t need a star Friday night. It had a roster full of them.

The Hawks turned a scoreless opening exchange into a runaway, scoring on seven possessions behind five different touchdown scorers while a relentless defense held Lodi to a single field goal – one that didn’t come until 27 seconds remained in the first half, long after the outcome had been decided – in a 47-3 rout that triggered the mercy-rule running clock late in the third quarter.

The tone was set before Liberty Ranch ever found the end zone. Lodi’s opening drive stalled in Hawk territory and the Flames sent out their field goal unit, only to watch the kick sail wide. It was the closest Lodi would come to leading all night, and it was the first of many trips that ended with the Flames walking off the field empty-handed.

From there, the Hawks simply took the game apart, one contributor at a time.

"This was a great team win demonstrated by how we were able to spread out the production on offense and shut down production on defense," Liberty Ranch head coach Warren Schroeder said. "We have many players who are willing to do what it takes to help their teammates shine and our team unity is getting stronger every week."

The numbers make his case better than any highlight reel could. Liberty Ranch ran 31 offensive plays and gained 450 yards — an absurd 14.5 yards every time the ball was snapped. The Hawks rushed 22 times for 306 yards, averaging 13.9 per carry, and threw only nine passes because they never needed a tenth.

Andrew Quinn led the ground game with 142 yards on eight carries, a 17.8-yard average punctuated by a 68-yard burst, and he found the end zone twice. Joe Lara added 101 yards on seven carries and two scores of his own, giving the Hawks a pair of 100-yard rushers before the fourth quarter ever arrived. Wyatt Corriea chipped in 19 yards and a touchdown on two carries.

Hunter Owen took two handoffs for 15 yards and a score. Enzo Diaz punched in a three-yard touchdown. Even quarterback Ryan Ogas pulled the ball down twice for 26 yards.

Five ball carriers, seven rushing touchdowns, and not a single player asked to carry the load alone.

Through the air, Ogas was efficient to the point of surgical, completing 5 of 7 throws for 144 yards – 28.8 yards per completion – without a turnover, good for a 113.7 rating. Diaz was his primary target and did the most damage, hauling in four catches for 113 yards with a long of 56. Lara added a 31-yard reception out of the backfield. Diaz finished with 152 all-purpose yards after adding 36 more on three punt returns, including a 20-yarder.

None of it happens without the work up front. The Hawks’ offensive line logged 16 pancake blocks, led by Ryan Guthrie’s six, Daniel Swearingen’s four, and two apiece from Deshaun Jackson and Corriea. Liberty Ranch put the ball on the ground three times and recovered all three, never surrendering a fumble.

And then there was the defense, which spent the evening living in the Lodi backfield.

The Hawks recorded 7.5 sacks for 45 yards in losses, added 9.5 tackles for loss and harassed Flames’ quarterbacks with 13 hurries. Soni Takafua was the wrecking ball in the middle with eight tackles, three sacks and three tackles for loss. Corriea led all tacklers with 11 stops, including two for loss and a sack that cost Lodi 20 yards. And he pressured the pocket four more times.

Lara added nine tackles, Diaz and Adrian Torres seven each, and Jackson finished with five tackles, 1.5 for loss, a sack and three hurries. Quinn, Caleb Martinez, Torres and Swearingen all got in on the sack column, and in all, 18 Hawks recorded at least one tackle.

The secondary was just as stingy, breaking up six passes: two by Owen and one each from Ogas, Lara, Izayah Vera and Liam Trosko. Rex Machado forced a fumble and recovered it himself.

Liberty Ranch led 7-0 after one quarter, then buried the Flames with a 21-point second. By the time Lodi finally got on the board, the Hawks had scored 28 unanswered points and the clock read 27 seconds until halftime. The field goal made it 28-3 at the break, and that was the last time the scoreboard moved for Lodi.

The Hawks tacked on 19 more in the third, and once the lead crossed the mercy-rule threshold, officials started the running clock with time still left in the period. The fourth quarter was a formality, and neither team scored.

Owen's four PATs and eight kickoffs averaged 32.9 yards, while Quinn added a PAT and boomed a punt 50 yards, pinning Lodi inside its own 20.

Final: Liberty Ranch 47, Lodi 3. Seven touchdowns, five scorers, 18 tacklers, and a locker room full of players who, as their coach put it, are more interested in making each other shine than in seeing their own name at the top of a stat sheet.
