GALT, CA (MPG) - A driver is dead following a crash early Sept. 29 just off state Highway 99 in Galt, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported at 4:08 a.m. on West Stockton Boulevard south of Twin Cities Road.

A sedan was traveling south on Highway 99 in the right lane when it drifted left and sideswiped a construction-attenuator vehicle in the left lane, CHP officials said.

The sedan veered right following impact and traveled across all lanes and the right shoulder before stopping on West Stockton Boulevard in the path of a tractor-trailer, according to the CHP.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was unable to stop, CHP officials said, and the truck hit the sedan, setting it ablaze. The driver of the car was pronounced dead there, according to the CHP.

The victim’s name has yet to be released. It’s unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, according to the CHP.
