GALT, CA (MPG) - Liberty Ranch saved its best for last. After a week of parades, powderpuff games, spirit days and a packed rally, the Hawks capped their Rio-themed Homecoming on Friday night with a 42-0 shutout of Rosemont. At halftime, the school crowned star quarterback Ryan Ogas and Savanna Garbarino as its Homecoming King and Queen.

Twelve campus clubs and all four classes elected their royalty for the Homecoming court. This year’s Liberty Ranch Homecoming royalty are:

Academic Senate: Gabriela Garcia and Abraham Flores

Athletic Senate: Ryan Ogas and Kamrynn Blevins

Cheer: Riley Snider and Joeylee Whitford

Color Guard: Maryann Orozco and Lolani Aguilar

Creative Writing: Yelitza Alfaro

FFA (Future Farmers of America): Mason Bussman and Adelaide Gonzalez

Drama Club: Julia White

Latinos Unidos: Amaya Avila Morales and Daniel Vidal

Leadership: Kylie Diggle and Wyatt Corriea

NHS (National Honor Society): Marie Durnell and Maritza Arevalo

Sports Medicine: Alexia Cruz Mesa and Khali Barrantes

The Flock: Scarlett White and Ernie Lujan

Freshman Class: Stella Babcock and Ethan Valencia

Sophomore Class: Aubrey Smith and Malakai Gomez

Ogas had a big night on both fronts. He accepted his crown in front of a full home crowd, then went back under center and led the varsity through the second half to finish off the shutout. The win closed a week that students and staff called one of the most spirited in school memory.

The celebration opened Monday with the Powder Puff games and the Royalty Showcase, featuring the royalty elected by the 12 clubs and four classes. The junior varsity game between the freshmen and sophomores went down to the wire, and the sophomores held on for a narrow win.

Between the two games, the school announced its Top 10 royalty finalists: Ryan Ogas and Kamrynn Blevins (Athletic Senate), Joeylee Whitford (Cheer), Mason Bussman and Adelaide Gonzalez (FFA), Kylie Diggle and Wyatt Corriea (Leadership), Khali Barrantes (Sports Medicine), and Hunter Owen and Savanna Garbarino (Senior Class).

The varsity Powder Puff matchup between the juniors and seniors was just as hard-fought. The juniors took the field with only seven players and kept pace with the seniors until the middle of the fourth quarter, when the seniors pulled away for a solid win.

Each day of Spirit Week took students somewhere new in Brazil. Monday was “Into the Amazon,” with hallways full of camo and animal print. Tuesday’s “Copacabana Coast” brought out tropical wear, and Wednesday’s “City of Champions” filled classrooms with favorite jerseys. Thursday’s “Carnival Craze” lit up campus in bright neon, and the week ended with “Birds of a Feather Flock Together,” as the Hawks dressed in green and silver.

Friday was the biggest day of the week, with two parades and a rally. 

The daytime parade carried royalty nominees in cars, along with four class floats and 11 sports floats, on a route past Marengo Elementary and McCaffrey Middle School, where younger students lined up to cheer.

Back on campus, the afternoon rally featured a standout performance by the cheer squad and a round of games that had every class on its feet. It ended with a grade-level sing-off, as each class tried to outdo the others in spirit.

That evening, the night parade circled the stadium track between football games, featuring every campus club and the four class floats. Hundreds of students took part in the two parades.

A Record-Setting Finale

The celebration continued Saturday night, when more than 500 students attended the Homecoming dance, a school record. DJ Renteria kept the dance floor full until the final song.

Activities Director Becca Dennis gave the credit to the students who planned the week. 

“I couldn’t be prouder of our leadership students for putting on a fantastic Homecoming week on such a short time frame,” Dennis said. “They poured their hearts into making every detail memorable for their peers. This week wouldn’t be possible without our wonderful advisors, athletic director, athletic boosters’ team, administrators, teachers and parents helping every step of the way. That’s the magic of Homecoming: Our entire community comes together to celebrate our kids.”
