GALT, CA (MPG) - For one quarter, Galt was in control. The Warriors scored a touchdown and kicked the extra point in the first quarter. Bradshaw Christian answered with a touchdown but missed the extra point, so Galt led 7-6 after the first 12 minutes.

The second quarter went the other way. Bradshaw Christian scored four touchdowns for 28 points and led 34-7 at halftime. The hosts added another touchdown in the third quarter. Galt scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter, but Bradshaw Christian matched it to make the final 48-14.

Senior quarterback Robert Rubio did most of the work on offense. He completed 21 of 35 passes (60 percent) for 261 yards and one touchdown. He threw two interceptions. His longest completion went for 36 yards. Rubio also led the team in rushing with 27 yards on four carries, including a touchdown run. That gave him 288 of Galt's 301 total yards.

The Warriors relied on the pass almost all night. They ran the ball only seven times for 40 yards, an average of 5.7 yards per carry. Sophomore Ricky Akers ran once for 10 yards and sophomore Sean Mace added 3 yards on two carries.

Senior Marcus Bell was Rubio's top target. He caught eight passes for 134 yards, averaging 16.8 yards per catch, and his 36-yarder was the longest play of the night for Galt. He was the only Warrior to top 100 yards.

Six players caught passes in all. Senior James Gilbert had five catches for 43 yards, and junior Mark Grammer had three for 35. Senior Arthur Cordova caught two passes for 12 yards and junior Alberto Arroyo had one for 6.

Akers had the most varied night of any Warrior. He caught two passes for 31 yards, including a 24-yard catch, and scored a touchdown through the air. He also ran for 10 yards and returned kicks for 57 yards. His 98 all-purpose yards were second on the team behind Bell.

The Warriors gained 358 all-purpose yards and showed what their passing game can do, especially in the first quarter. The second quarter is what decided the game, and cutting down on turnovers and stopping big scoring runs will be the focus going forward.

Galt stays on the road next week against Rosemont.
