ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - The Cosumnes Fire Department welcomed eight new firefighters at their fire academy graduation Sept. 30 in Elk Grove. The graduates will expected to report to fire stations across southern Sacramento County Oct. 1, helping the department meet the increasing demand for emergency services in the region.

The 22-week, state-accredited academy trained the recruits through tough physical and academic evaluations to prepare them for the realities of emergency response. Each recruit began the program with a paramedic license and a solid foundation in emergency medical care. Their training ensures they are ready to respond to calls with professionalism, skill and compassion.

Approximately 150 family members, friends, and colleagues attended the graduation ceremony on Sept. 30. In a meaningful tradition, each recruit selected someone significant in their life to pin their badge, symbolizing the trust and duty of public service. Cosumnes CSD General Manager Tim Ogden administered the loyalty oath, officially welcoming them as probationary firefighters.

The academy was made possible in part by funding from Measure E, a local sales tax that helps address public safety and quality-of-life services.

“Welcoming eight new firefighter-paramedics strengthens our ability to serve this community,” said Cosumnes CSD Board President Peter Sakaris. “They have worked hard to prepare for the responsibility ahead, and we're proud to welcome them to Cosumnes Fire. With the community's support of Measure E, we continue to invest in the people and resources needed to provide reliable emergency services as our region grows.”
