SUTTER CREEK, CA (MPG) – Galt’s junior varsity football team made the trip to Sutter Creek on Friday night and came home on the short end of a 27-14 decision against Amador.
Neither team scored in the opening quarter, and the game stayed tight into the half. Galt put eight points on the board in the second period, but Amador answered with 14 to take a 14-8 lead into the break.
The Warriors stayed within reach after halftime, adding six points in the third quarter while holding the Buffaloes to seven, and went to the fourth trailing 21-14. Amador closed it out with the only score of the final period to seal the win.
Sophomore Michael Silva carried the load on the ground for Galt, running 12 times for 88 yards and the Warriors' rushing touchdown, an average of 7.3 yards per carry with a long of 19. Freshman Austyn Gubac added 35 yards on five carries, freshman Hank Van Steyn ran four times for 32 yards and freshman Grayson Tassell had four carries for six yards. Galt finished with 161 rushing yards on 25 attempts, an average of 6.4 yards per carry.
The passing game was limited but productive. Sophomore Chance George completed 1 of 3 attempts for 45 yards and a touchdown, a passer rating of 121.5, with Tassell on the receiving end of the 45-yard score. That connection accounted for all of Galt's 45 passing yards and gave the Warriors 206 yards of total offense on the night.
Tassell was the Warriors' most versatile weapon, piling up 121 all-purpose yards on six rushing yards, 45 receiving yards and 70 yards on kick returns. Gubac finished with 85 all-purpose yards, Silva had 88 and Van Steyn added 32. Galt totaled 326 all-purpose yards, though the Warriors lost one fumble on the night, charged to Van Steyn.
The Galt defense was busy, recording 41 total tackles, 16 of them solo, with one tackle for loss and a sack. Freshman Andrew Lee and sophomore Nathaniel Stratton each finished with six tackles, with Stratton making one solo stop and five assists. Gubac and freshman Aaron Byrd had five tackles apiece, and Byrd supplied the Warriors' lone sack, dropping the Amador quarterback for an 8-yard loss. Freshman Emilio Viramontes, Van Steyn and sophomore Andy Sanchez each recorded three tackles, while freshman Julián Mojica, freshman Adan Francisco Chaidez, sophomore Brody Patterson and sophomore Charles Patterson also got in on the tackling.
